Obsession

We all know I'm a geek. So it should come as no surprise that my latest obsession is completely geeky in nature. It is the Rubiks cube. I was up at my parents house last weekend when I saw that my little sister had leaned to solve a Rubiks cube. Naturally I became insanely jealous. So I insisted that Kevin take me to buy one immediately. I spent three nights practicing and finally I can do a rubiks cube. Now all I have to do is try and convince Kevin to learn too!

Don't trip

Alright, I was enjoying everyone elses blogs and I linked from Nate and Allie's cute blog with their adorable pictures of their wonderful family... to my blog with the psychotropic drugs as the first subject. So I decided that I'd try to post something wholesomeish. A few weeks ago we went to Moab with my family. It was so much fun. We had a great time hiking and playing around Arches. The weather was perfect and it was a great way to just get away from it all, even if it was for just two days. The only downside was when I nearly died of a heart attack, when halfway through my lunch I looked up to see Kevin dancing on top of double o arch.

Psychotropic Drugs

As many of you know my psychiatry rotation has focused mainly on drug rehabilitation. Here is an interesting documentary on the effects of drugs on spiders.

Movin' Out

After weeks of waking at 3 and working 16 hour days I was cracking. The famous words of Billy Joel kept replaying in my head "If that's movin up then I'm moving out". I knew I was going to end up in the psych unit one way or another. Sure enough that's where I am. Cocaine dependence, anorexia and paranoid schizophrenia are some of my new favorite things. I never knew I would be so happy to be surrounded by such a group of unstable people. But now that I am on my psych rotation I acutally get to see the sun shine, the grocery store and most importantly my husband. I'm even updating my blog.
So over the last three months we were able to go to the cabin and go rafting with our families. It was a lot of fun because my family was up camping and Kevin's sister and her family were at the cabin so we were able to see them both. It was especially fun getting to know our neice Kimberly's new husband Jason better. They are such a fun couple we can't wait to go hang out with them.

Unlike my boring life Kevin has had many adventures. He was able to go to Alaska with his dad and brothers to their newly completed cabin in Sterling and went fishing for a week. He had a great time and brought back lots of fish. He was also able to go fishing in Wyoming lots of times and sent plenty of time working on the cabin. This weekend he and I went up and stayed there and had a great time just hanging out, watching old movies by the fire and enjoying the beautiful fall weather. We even went to Jackson and gorged ourselves on delicious haagen daiz shakes while we meandered down the streets and enjoyed the local galleries. I'm having such a fun time actually living my life I may become a psychiatrist just for the great hours.

Beach Bums

In my opinion there is no better way to recoup from real life stress than leaving it far behind and completely hiding from all of your responsibilities. This is why immediately following the boards (and before I began my rotations) we flew away to California and spent a week doing absolutely nothing on the beach. It was so much fun because we rented a cute little beach cottage right on the beach. Here is a picture we took out our front door.

Every morning I slept in and Kevin and my dad went fishing off the coast although all they ever caught was kelp they had a good time dreaming of the massive fish that could be waiting on the other end. We went boogey boarding tons. If you haven't gone boogey boarding what basically happens is you swim out towards a wave with a little foam board hooked to your arm. Right before the wave crashes you try to start riding the wave in. It was fun because you could blissfully ride the wave until you were washed up on the shore like some sort of beached whale. I think the best part was watching my mom fearlessly take on some pretty big waves like a pro. She even has some decent bruises to prove that she can play hard too. In the grand Chlarson tradition we of course built and enormous sand castle that was admired by visitors up and down the beach. We also made a mermaid body and had a fun time taking pictures in it. Every night we walked to the tide pools at one end of the beach and then came home and ate gourmet meals prepared by Kevin. It was such a fun vacation and it was great to be able to feel like myself again.
