Family Home Evening

Kevin's family started monthly family home evenings because his family doesn't think they have enough togetherness (trust me they are wrong, they have way too much family togetherness time). Nonetheless we were suppossed to take turns hosting said monthly get togethers. When our turn came around we sort of dropped the ball for a couple of months. Part of the problem being we live an hour south of everyone else, the othe part being our laziness. Now if we were to host a family home evening in Salt Lake everyone would have trouble driving the hour to and from, so it took a while before we had enough time to drive an hour north, set up said family home evening, and still have it done early enough that everyone could come and still put their munchkins to bed at a descent time. I sound like I'm complaining and truthfully I'm making it sound worse than it is. Kevin's family does a million things to help us out and driving an hour for family home evening doesn't come anywhere near the support they lend us. The family get together was held at a campsite in Mantua and was so much fun. We had tin-foil dinners and everyone brought something to share (I brought Heidi's spinach dip which was a huge hit -Thanks Heidi). We played some games and enjoyed the campfire and everyone's company. All in all it was a fun little shindig.

Wyoming weekend

We had another fun trip to wyoming last weekend with my family. It was a quick trip because Rosie had to get back for a missionary farewell on Sunday. Nonetheless, we had an exciting saturday. Early Saturday we rafted the Snake since I had not yet gone this year. It was a lovely float but a bit more chilly than I was expecting. No one was quite as chilly as my dad after the boat slingshotted him out in Kahuna (the larger of the rapids this time of year). For those of us that have swum a rapid before it was an entertaining spectacle to watch everyone on the boat scramble and scream and panic. My mom didn't find it nearly as entertaining and had a look of pure terror with every rapid after that. After we made it safely to Sheep Gulch we dumped the boat headed to Jackson. Rosie brought cowboy clothes so that she and I could "go western" together. It was lots of fun meandering through Jackson and equally fun going to the Bar J ranch for dinner and entertainment. After my family went home on Sunday Kev and I stuck around and had fun playing along the river, in the fields, and on the mud flats.

Too much information??

So I recently joined facebook with mixed feelings. I was excited to add a few friends that I know pretty well and regularly do stuff with. I was even more excited to add my brother and sister to get some insight into their lives. However, it was with some apprehension that I watched facebook search my email account to see who else I may know on facebook. Do I add them as "friends" do I really care what is going on in their lives? I added some high school friends and it was fun to see how they are doing, to be linked to their blogs. But now I'm wondering, how much do we really want people to know about us? How much do we really want to know about other people? With my prior blogstalking, I felt that I was seeing what people I knew wanted to be seen. With facebook I get updates about what my sister posted on her friends blogs, it seems so invasive. Just pondering (I have WAY too much time on my hands on my current rotation). I personally feel I have nothing to hide, but is this like a smaller version of reality tv? Is too much scrutiny of our lives likely to lead to disaster? Or is this the new small town, its a small world after all, etc? Is this much info at our fingertips really healthy?

ERAS

ERAS is the system that I use to apply for residency programs. I am applying to the anesthesia programs in quite a few states. Kev and I are excited about all of the possibilities (even a possible intern year in Hawaii) but more than that we are excited that some of this is finally out of my hands. I'm looking forward to interviews (hopefully) but not looking forward to the dent it will make in our bank account. Just thought I would post in an attempt to explain some of the madness I have been experiencing lately.

We had a little BBQ this week in honor of Kev. Kevin is a wonder man and an amazing husband. I am so incredibly fortunate to be married to him. I secretly hope he never realizes what a better end of the deal I am getting. Without him I wouldn’t eat, sleep, pay the bills, or get intractable hiccups from laughing too hard. Kev is funny, smart, handsome, and unbelievably selfless. Recently he was featured in another blog for his rare ability to make everyone comfortable and happy. Kevin is always so happy and his enthusiasm for life is unparalleled. I know you're all jealous but feel free to post some of your favorite memories about Kev if you have time.
